Drinkwell pet fountain
Drinkwell pet fountain is a water system which encourages the pet to consume more liquids and stay away from sinks and toilets. The 5 inch stream of falling water entices the pet to drink more. Proper hydration is vital to pets' health, dry foods tend to dehydrate the pets and insufficient hydration may be harmful.

Company profile:
The maker of the Drinkwell pet fountain is a company called Vetventures.
The original inventor and designer of the system was a frustrated veterinarian Dr. M. Burns who owned a cat "Buckwheat" that refused to drink water that was not dripping from the sink. As a veterinarian, Dr. Burns was well aware of the importance of sufficient water intake in cats to maintain healthy kidney and urinary tract function (same applies to dogs). Lack of sufficient amounts of water makes cats' urine more concentrated and leads to an environment where bladder crystal formation is more likely to occur. This can lead to urinary tract obstruction and the all too familiar fatal Feline Urinary Syndrome. Therefore, denying "Buckwheat" her running water was just not an option.
The original design was created in 1995 and has evolved over the years. The product won the Cat Fancy's Best New Cat Product award and is very popular amongst cat and dog owners.
